postheadericon Doug Hawkins Delivers Petitions to Postmaster

Save Valley Station Post Office

Doug

Councilman Doug Hawkins accompanied by Valley Station resident and former postal employee, Brenda Silveria, submitted petitions containing more than 2000 signatures to Louisville Postmaster Richard Curtsinger today at 3 p.m. at the Main Branch of the Louisville Post Office (1420 Gardiner Lane).

The petition drive was started by Brenda Silveria and Councilman Hawkins to show their support for the continued operation of the Valley Station Post Office.  The Valley Station Post Office is one of four local offices under consideration for consolidation in an effort to reduce postal service operational costs.

Silveria and Hawkins circulated the written and electronic petitions throughout South Louisville to gain support for the Valley Station Post Office, since the announcement of a potential closing on July 31, 2009.

The petition reads as follows:

We, the undersigned petitioners are residents of Valley Station, Kentucky. We are deeply concerned regarding the rumored relocation of the Valley Station Post Office to Pleasure Ridge Park Post Office. We are taxpayers who are asking our elected leaders to STOP this relocation. This post office serves over 8723 home deliveries.* Valley Station is comprised of 23,055 voting people, many of whom are elderly and retired military Veterans (being located so closely to Ft. Knox) who would suffer an economic hardship by forcing these individuals to drive 10-15 miles to P.R.P. for postal services. (*2005 Census).

postheadericon Abramson Releases Audit

Abramson Releases Audit of Cordish Owned Sports and

Social Clubs

Still unaccounted for: one million dollars of tax payer money

(the cover up continues)

This is insulting to the people of Louisville.  Cordish takes our tax dollars, but will only show the books to Abramson’s audit team if they promise not to tell anyone what they saw (confidentiality agreement).

The Abramson audit team did not perform any physical verification of the alleged work done at The Sports & Social Club site, nor did they contact any of the vendors alleged to have preformed the work.

Abramson’s free money (“forgivable loan”) offer to Cordish did not contain a “right to audit” clause so the Abramson audit team could only rely upon the honesty of the Cordish people to provide all the necessary documentation.

Without any back-up documentation this is nothing but a continued cover-up!

People throughout the state of Kentucky had better take note–this is how Abramson operates and Abramson’s people are already infused into the Beshear administration, not the least of which is Larry Hayes, one of Abramson’s former deputy mayors.

This is despicable; it is total corruption at its worst.  Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and this is just another reason why this city can no longer afford a one party rule system of government.

The Abramson audit team released this information late in the day Friday so no-one would notice and the Courier Journal dutifully swept it under the rug.

postheadericon Potential Sewer Collapse Closes Portion of Broadway

Louisville Metro Public Works is immediately restricting a section of East Broadway because of the potential threat of an underground sewer collapse.   MSD discovered damage to the sewer structure that may have been caused by last week’s flash flooding.

East Broadway will be restricted between Brent and Campbell Streets (near the railroad overpass) until emergency repairs are complete.  Four lanes – two in each direction – will remain open.

MSD detected a problem with the underground sewer structure during routine maintenance today.  Repair workers are focused on a section of the sewer that lies directly under Broadway.  The Broadway sewer is eight feet in diameter, made of brick and is more than 130 years old.

As repair work continues, more lane closures are possible.  Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.

postheadericon Councilman Hawkins Remarks at Anti-tax “Tea Party”

What the Courier-Journal doesn’t want you to hear:

An impressive number of people participated at Louisville’s first ever anti-tax “Tea Party.”  The Courier-Journal reports hundreds of people attended yesterday’s demonstration when other sources report the attendance as being as high as 1,500 to 2,000.

Wendy Caswell, a registered Democrat and event organizer, introduced Councilman Doug Hawkins.  Caswell noted Councilman Hawkins was the only council person to vote against the mayor’s budget due to its lack of transparency.

Listen to the crowd erupt in cheers when Councilman Hawkins calls for real change in local government.
